We have had a busy winter fixing up our 1 bwdroom apartment for Debbie and the end is almost here! We just need carpeting and we're done! I also made a tiled mosaic table. It is something I always wanted to do and finally did it. It's already on my porch.
It is hard to tell much from the pictures I have posted of the before and after. Before it was gloomy and dark in there and with paint and tile we have updated and brightened it up. And Ron and Uncle Joe did a great job on the bathroom. Can't wait 'til Deb moves in and decorates. The new over-sized tub is heavenly and I have used it several times already.........that's the beauty of having your sister living right across the hall............you can share............even a bathtub!!

50's Party

My sis turned 60 in December and we decided to throw a 60's party. I made a 6 foot poster that we used as a backdrop for pictures as well as a focal point. I got a cardboard car from Steak and Shake-the one they give to the kids- and painted it black with trim and made a small replica of a 45 rpm record and filled the car with red cellophane. I even tried my hand at cake decorating.
I wanted to have a dance floor and remembered reading in a magazinethat you can paint linoleum pieces and use them as decorative floor covers. I went to Lowe's and talked to one of the men working in flooring and told him what I wanted to do but also stressed I was on a tight budget. There was a remnant piece of nice beige floor tile 7' x 10' marked sdown from $115 to $55. I told him I wouldn't be able to afford that. He told me he would let me have it for $10 and by the time he got it marked he sold it to me for $7!!! My sis and I sray painted it inwhite and black checkerboard and it looked sweet!!
We dressed in 50's clothes and jitterbugged for hours: proving that you are NEVER TOO OLD TO BOOGEY!!!

70th Birthday Party

I found a template on Martha Stewart for making these roses out of coffee filters and I used these for a friend's 70th party. I took pictures of her life and made personalized lamp shades with tea lights for the tables and used a paisley paper and sheet music paper to decorate the vases and make favors.

The Little Prince

My youngest step son and his wife had a baby 2 years ago and we threw a "little prince" shower for his mom. I made the "cake out of paper mache boxes and used a 3-d stencil paste to make the emblems on them and then painted and coated them with mod-podge. The crown is actually a gold tree topper that I removed the coil from and painted and glittered silver. I made sceptors out of dowel rods, wooden balls, pipe clears and added rhinestones to make them royal!

I made these for a high school volleyball banquet for centerpieces. I used styrofaom, scrapbooking paper, plastic needlepoint mesh(what is it called?), skewers and paint.

My niece Amy was married at the Easter Seals Camp where she and Matt met. My niece Jill was har maid of honor and I was pleased to help with
the decorations.

They wanted it informal and they wanted cakeplates on each table with cupcakes but the budget was an issue so I came up with the idea of terra cotta pots and bottoms. I painted them, decoupaged them and sealed them with miultiple layers of mod podge. We had coordinating paper for pinwheels for the kids to take to the pier and with the leftover paper we made mini pinwheels with candy sticks as favors.

We hung their initials in trees to direct people down the path to the pier. Also had
handmade signs to point the way.

Each person took a rock and, as part of the ceremony, threw it in the lake
with a wish or prayer for the couple.

My sisters were huge helps with the decorations and made most of the favors.
My sister Toby and I did hair and makeup and my sister Debbie did lots of
decorating at the dock. As you will see, she also joined Amy, Matt and their friends
by jumping off the pier into the lake after the reception...with all her clothes on I might add!!!
